A Final Message From the Board (IxDA) – https://ixda.org/a-final-message-from-the-board/
Good-bye. 🙁
I speak of change not on the surface but in the depth—change in the sense of renewal.
James Baldwin – Letter from a Region in My Mind (1962)
I’m a front-end developer.
I will never work in an engineering team again.

Last year, I attended only two events – World IA Day DC (pre-lockdown) and IA Conference (virtual). Missed UX Camp DC due to injury.
Now in 2021, with all conferences online (and most likely not to return to physical locations until next year), I’m attending three events the first half of this year. Missed out of UX Camp DC again (sad!)
and for the first time since 2016, a developer-focused conference
These days, I have to use the term “app bulders” instead of “front-end developers” because most front-end developers aren’t working on the front-end anymore.
One result is that I’m not part of any dev community. These days, I stay with the following communities:
- UX
- Information Architecture (IA) or
- Accessibility
because they have something of value that I can use across any tech stack.
The thing I worry about is that developers like me are a) being pushed to non-coding/programming roles or b) pushed out of tech altogether.
